Winds of the Forelands(5 book series) by David B. Coe. So of the people I told to read it said it starts off kinda slow, but once they got to a point(around chapter 5 or 6) they were addicted and demanding I let them borrow the next book.

Lon Tobyn chronicles(3 book series) by David B. Coe. It has a science vs magic thing going on. I found it very engaging.

I would probably place them both in the Epic or High Fantasy

The Graveyard Book ~ Neil Gaiman, YA, but Mr. Gaiman's writing will appeal to a far wider age range.

Yes, Neil Gaiman is an insanely talented writer and belongs on any Best of Fantasy list, or any Best of Literature list in general. ;)

I don't know if Melanie Rawn's Exiles series would be considered Epic Fantasy or High Fantasy. But in the Exiles series The Ruins of Ambrai and Mage-Born Traitor. Don't know if Captal's Traitor the Third Book has come out yet. I'm sure it has the last book was published in 1997.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned Brust's Vlad series.

Perhaps rather than recommending specific books, the series should be listed.

Terry Brooks -- DUH! :D
David and Leigh Eddings -- Belgariad
Anne McCaffrey (and son Todd) -- PERN
Robert Jordan -- Wheel of Time
Hickman and Weis -- Death's Gate Cycle
and too many others to list
Steven Brust -- Vlad
Terry Goodkind -- Sword of Truth
Stephen King -- Dark Tower

Under the Heading of Young Adult Fantasy--Mercedes Lackey.

The Last Herald-Mage Trilogy
The Herald's of Valdemar Trilogy
By the Sword

Under the heading of epic fantasy or I guess high fantasy
JRR Tolkiens' the Silmarillion along with the Book of Lost Swords by Fred Saberhagen( the orginal three stories) and then the first book of Lost Swords: Woundhealer's story.

I would definitely recommend Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I think it would be Epic Fantasy even though it's only one book. Really it's more of political fantasy because there is a lot of politics and mystery in the book.

Also, Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series is stupendous. It starts with On a Pale Horse and would be Epic Fantasy.

And, I would recommend The Jigsaw Woman by Kim Antieau. I'm not sure what category it would be in. I'd probably just put it under fantasy, though it's a bit like Sci-Fi and a bit like Horror, too.

And, Anathem by Neal Stephenson. Great Sci-Fi book. I'd call it alternate reality Sci-Fi.

And Finally, The Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson. It is Epic Sci-Fi and is filled with politics, sociology, science, spiritualism, and more. I was once asked what book I would want with me if I was stranded on a deserted island and I negotiated my way up to 3 books so I could have this whole trilogy.

Thanks!

Did I just recently post the wrong kind of book recommendations in this thread? If so, it's been deleted (and rightfully so). Kind of bugging me, though. I know I posted them on some forum. Haha.

EDIT: Disregard. I found it. Laughing

I read William Nicolsons Noble Warrior trilogy not to long ago, it's a pretty good Young Adult Book. Start with Seeker

I guess you could add Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury under one of the Sci-Fi categories. I thought it was a great book.

A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay. Read it 3 times in a row. Also Dragon's Winter by Elizabeth A. Lynn.

btw, hickman and wiess' Dragon Wing started off pretty good but personally i lost interest by the 4th book. thats my review anywyas. it got a little too confusing.

only my humble opinionVery Happy

Anything by Stephen King or Anne Rice. Anne Rice wrote me a letter once. I got email from Stephen King's son Owen too.
Right now I'm reading Interview with the Vampire.
