I love the gunslinger's tale! I have completed all of the series up to #7. Is he going to come out with #8?

Eddings is great humor in the "Beginning of the gods" or something like that. I laughed my head off!

No.

Perhaps rather than recommending specific books, the series should be listed.
Terry Brooks -- DUH! :D
David and Leigh Eddings -- Belgariad
Anne McCaffrey (and son Todd) -- PERN
Robert Jordan -- Wheel of Time
Hickman and Weis -- Death's Gate Cycle
and too many others to list
Steven Brust -- Vlad
Terry Goodkind -- Sword of Truth
Stephen King -- Dark Tower
That's a great list in my opinion. I've read most of the series on there and have enjoyed them tremendously.
I also just finished When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. It's a really good thriller if you're into those kind of books.

I didnt have time to read through all of them, so this may be on there, but "The Warded Man/The Painted Man" by Peter V. Brett Belongs on there. Im sure a few of you have read it, and im pretty sure Mr. Brooks himself recommends it on the back of the cover. It has some pretty adult themes in it, so i wouldnt recommend it for someone under 17 or so, but it was a great read.

John Steinback's Tortilla Flat. It's short, hilarious, and during the few days I spent reading it I gained a noticeable amount of weight because reading it kept on making me wanna drink all the time.

I really enjoyed D.M. Cornish's Foundling and Lamplighter. Cornish is an Austrailian artist who started filling up his notebooks with his ideas and 23 notebooks later he presented his ideas for the Half Continent to a publisher and now is a writer. Unfortunately his pace is PAINFULLY slow and his next book isnt due out until 2010, but he illustrates all his characters and has one about every chapter and provides a sizable glossary in the back. It's definitely worth checking out because this guy's world is incredibly original and deep. His stuff is in the young adult section. His first book was good, but his second is the jewel of the two.
Here are some links if you want to check him out.

Here are some books I really enjoyed that are not listed. They are fantasy but not sure what group they need to be in.
Rick Cook - Wizardry Series
John Ringo - Council Wars Series
Mack Maloney - Wingman Series (This isn't fantasy it is more like SciFi It is a series of books about a pilot in the after math of WWIII.)
Edgar Rice Burroughs - Tarzan Series Not sure what that series falls under but they were all good reads of the 20+ books in the series that I have read so far.

While not being fantasy I still think one should mention Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. I thoroughly enjoyed it; albeit it was in the format of an audio book.

Hi, I'm new to this site. I'm currently reading two book series. The first is written by S. M. Sterling called "The Emberverse series". The first book is called "Dies the Fire". "Dies the Fire chronicles the struggle of two groups who try to survive "The Change", a sudden worldwide event that alters physical laws so that electricity, gunpowder and most other forms of high-energy-density technology no longer work. As a result, modern civilization comes crashing down. I highly recommend it.
The second book series is written by Jack Whyte. The series is called "A Dream of Eagles". It is a realistic take on the King Arthur legends. It takes place during the time the Romans leave England thus the beginning of the Dark Ages. In my opion the author writes these stories in a way that you begin to believe this could have happened. If you want to know what Britian was like during and after the time of the Romans, then I suggest you start reading this series.
I hope these were good suggestions for all,
Gord

Not sure if it's been suggested but it isn't listed yet...
Knife of Never Letting Go
The Ask and the Answer
both by Patrick Ness. They're part of the trilogy Chaos Walking.
Good stuff, this series! ^^ Guess it'll go under.. Young Adult Fantasy? But I'm not too sure. Hurrumph.

i love the Emberverse series....absolutely awesome.
Anyhow, Simon R Green's Deathstalker book are a hard to find, but excellent space opera, as are his fantasy/detective Nightside books.
I would reccomend William W Johnstone's Ashes series to everyone that reads, mainly men though, seeing as how when it was created in 1983, it was listed as 'mens adventure'. Started in 1983, this series finished in 2003, right befdore the author's death, with over 30 books in the series. A great read for anyone, good action, humor, characters, etc.

Not sure if this has already been added, but I just finished reading the entire Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks.. It was amazing, I highly recommend it.
Other books I've purchased and am about to read are:
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
Can't say anything about those two books because I haven't read them yet.
Obviously, I'm a "high fantasy" reader.. If anyone has any other suggestions for me, I'd love to hear some! Just to remind you all, Brent Week's books were great. Haha thanks

I'd like to put forth The Forever War by Joe Haldeman as an addtion to the list. It's a Military Sci-Fi adventure about a man drafted into the military to fight a war on other planets against a mysterious alien enemy.
I just finished reading it over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Somehow, I just noticed this thread. Great idea, Shawn-from-two-years-ago.
I'd like to see more Sci-fi. And I wonder - could we come up with some books that aren't sci-fi or fantasy?
I'd like to recommend The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint. What an astounding book.

A book I've just read in the last month that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a funny thriller type is A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore.
I'm not dumb. I just have a command of thoroughly useless information.

Totally need to recommend the Mistborn Triolgy by Brandon Sanderson. By far my favorite series. He really makes you feel for those characters in a short amount of time and his magic system is great.
I'd also recommend Warbreaker and Elantris by Mr. Sanderson as well. Again fro the same reasons.
The Bass Guitar is an honorable instrument. It is understated and underappreciated, yet it plays the most important role. The bass is the link between harmony and rhythm. It is the foundation of a band. It is what all the other instruments stand upon

I just finished re-reading "The Desert Spear" by Peter Brett. The sequel to the Warded Man (or Painted Man) is one of the most intriguing fantasy books I have read this year. Well written, not inconsistent, not cliched, good action. The only negative thing is this stupid hill billy accent that Arlen seems to get occasionally. Annoying but bearable (if the book was not awesome it wouldn't have been!).
