There is a strong rumour circulating that Steven Erikson - yes, of MALAZAN fame - will have a role as an extra in the GAME OF THRONES TV series. According to attendees of a Czech fantasy convention which Erikson attended recently, he reported that GRRM had asked him to appear following them meeting up at several conventions and he agreed. He'll be playing a horseman appearing in the background of a scene.
Officially unconfirmed so far, but this would be the definition of surreal-but-awesome.

Might help Steve sell more books, of which he is quite worthy.

If Martin has enough power on the set to pick extras, why not put himself in a scene?

I thought he was going to do a cameo? maybe I'm making that up though?

You guys just need to accept that until there is a five year difference between when Feast and Dragons is released, it's not late. Because the past shows us five years between Swords and Feast and since Feast is half of that book, do some simple algebra to see when Dragons will be released. haha....He never should have said he'd have the book done by a certain date or time; or, if he did, he should have said five years from the moment Feast was published.
Then, if it was released earlier than five years, you'd all be happy. Just think if you didn't know anything about Dragons, how would you feel right now? You wouldn't have a care in the world because we aren't even close to five years.

Shawn - not to dredge up bad quotes, as I'm certain I've had more than a few contradictory ones in this thread as I've gone back and forth with my opinions
I just re-read the first page of this thread and found your post above and found it interesting/sad. Obviously, the biggest part is because you casually threw in "we aren't even close to five years" - but we are closing in on it now
But, the sad truth is that even by your generous (imo) math, we are actually past the point where it has taken five years since he completed AFFC. AFFC was published in Nov. 2005....so even if he turned in ADWD today, I doubt it could get published by Nov. 8, 2010....meaning he's crossed even the five-year threshold for finishing ADWD.
Not complaining any further or rehashing arguments - just pointing out that I do believe we've gone past the point where anyone could argue that its not late.

A Storm of Swords was published in August/September of 2000. The man has put out half a book in ten years.
The disparity between the man's talent and work ethic is the biggest gap in the genre.
It's a shame.
If Dance isn't in my hands by April, I'm done with it. I'm sticking to my earlier quote.

Seriously Roland? I just can't believe that if he published ADWD is July 2011, that you wouldn't run out and buy a copy? There is simply no way, no matter what, that I could give up on reading this series if the book is ever published.

No, I've got to draw the line somewhere. Heck, I bought the SoIaF calendar back in 2009, specifically because I was so sure that it would be published that year.
Now here it is two-thirds through 2010, and still not finished.
It's just getting outrageous.
And there's no doubt in my mind anymore that these ridiculous delays are going to continue for the rest of the series, too, so I'm really beginning to wonder what's the point.
Ten and a half years to read of my three favorite characters - I think that's my deadline.
