Recommendation game, trial.

this is a trial run for an upcoming medal for this section.
Recommend a book game!
I'll accept the next three (or so) book recommendations of works I have not previously read. I will read each book individually, and will post a "review" within a week of finishing it.
Rules
1)It must be a book I can realistically read in a week's time. (In english, not a technical treatise, or 10K pages long with 6 point font) It does not have to be a work of fiction. Also, it must be a book I can realistically get for an affordable price.
2)Must be a new book to me.
3)you can only recommend one book at a time. If it's one I have read already, the next person gets a shot. You can post again after them.
4)If part of a series, must be the first book in that series. (don't start me in the middle of a storyline that I will have to get the Cliff notes for)
5)Reviews must be long enough to show that the book has been read. And more than just a plot summary.
5)This is a trial run for a medal event. After I get my recommendations, I'll post the actual game in a more final form.
Feel free to comment on the rules and offer suggestions to make this game more fun.

The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay.

Haven't read it, looks like a good pick. Any reasons why you picked that one?

Because anyone who hasn't read it, needs to.
Wonderful author, wonderful story.

I was curious because it seems to have been brought up for some world scholar championship or something.

Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers, excellent Vietnam fiction.

I'll bet Samuel L. Jackson is here, he's in everything.

Alright, that looks like three good recommendations.
I have no idea if I'm into "it," or not. That's why I'll read it.
two historic fictions? On a fantasy board? And neither by turtledove?
What do you all think of the book recommendation rules? oh and feel free to give me more recommendations in here, I just can't promise to get to any more books. Three might be pushing it.

What's the grand scheme here? Is the medal for the suggester or the reviewer? You're going to read these three suggestions, then post reviews and......?
Sorry for being dense, but I'm just not getting the gist of the event.

I haven't explained the real event yet. I was just trying to get the rules for book suggestions working. There are still some aspects of the event that need to be nailed down, including what trophies to give out.
So I will give you some mental buoyancy and explain what I'm plotting.
I'll start a thread with the rules that serves as a registry. That thread will be open for one week (or maybe until a cap is reached)
Then someone else posts in the thread. they are poster1.
then poster2 posts, including a recommendation for poster1. If a valid book, poster1 has one month to read that book and post a review of it.
If not a valid book, then someone else can make a recommendation for poster1.
So after poster1 has a book, poster3 comes along and makes a recommendation for poster2. So forth and so on until I close registration. At that time, poster1 makes a recommendation for the final poster.
When a book is completed and its review posted, both the reader and the recommender get a trophy. I'm currently planning on having two trophies, one for reading and one for recommending. Or that might be a single trophy, and both your review and your recommended book's review must be posted.
I think that made sense. Let me know.

I'm not sure I spell anything right!
That's true, someone could have stuck with the twilight book. ouch!
My other concern is/are children books. I'm not sure how to oulaw them. I mean a review of a book that is 2x the length of teh book would be interesting...lol

I would love to engage in something like this but I have a hard enough time getting through my own reads and I'm in the middle of several. But I look forward to reading your reviews and how this entire experience works out.
I might do something on a smaller scale. I think after I finish Kraken I'll post a list of books that I want to read and let the forum decide which one is next. Cheers.

I've not been able to get to the university library yet to collect my books. Which is annoying.
The idea is percolating along, but I was trying to figure out if it was better to pursue this game or just to start the "book club." there seems to be lots of interest in the book club, more so then this game has generated. I might be wrong though.
Or I could suck it up and run both.
