Besides the exellent writting of Terry Brooks...R.A. Salvitore has got to be one of the BEST fantasy writters of all time. With the Dark Elf Jaraxle and the assissian Artimus Entreri And another Dark Elf who went over to the "good-side" named Drizzitt do Urrdin and his panther Gwynaveir. Also the "drow" and the other soscorers. Check them out!
Gregory.
Right now it is about 101 degrees out-side. And you? (In Utah).

Most here are very familiar with Salvatore's writing and he and Terry Brooks are very friendly.
I really enjoyed his "Crimson Shadow" trilogy and I have read some of his Drizzt novels.
I think this will soon be moved to the Other Authors Forum.

Perhaps this thread would be best suited to the Other Authors section of the forum?

I really enjoyed his "Crimson Shadow" trilogy
Good to hear, Archer. Most people I know don't like that trilogy very much...
And yeah, ol' RAS is a pretty darn good author. He was one of my very first authors to ever read from.
And just fyi for those of you who don't know, his next Drizzt book titled Gauntlygrym (last I heard anyway) coming this fall is the first book of his last Drizzt series. Just fyi.
You might be able to tell how big a fan I am of his from my siggy

Sword, I am so glad to hear that he is finally putting this character to rest. I love me some dark drow elf action but that character has been run into the ground.
Cheers.

I wholeheartedly agree, Fiz. I only hope he'll go down fighting the most epic battle of all time ... ...

I thought I read something over at the Salvatore board that he just signed a contract for six more Drizzt novels, but I never saw anything stating that he is going to stop writing Drizzt. May I ask where it was you read or heard that Salvatore was ending the Drizzt series? I'm not doubting you, just curious. Thanks.

Glad to see some R.A. Salvatore fans here. He's not my favorite, but he was my second ever foray into fantasy. He definitely knows how to write an exciting story, and I like his world-building a lot - Menzoberranzan is fantastic. I stopped reading his books after The Two Swords, but I may pick up the ones following that at some point.

RAS' Transitions trilogy is excellent!
The last time I was so enthralled in a book was Terry's SoS.
I hope they don't kill Drizzt off. It's easy to shelve him for a century or two. Then they have a new group of allies and enemies. Or no friends at all...
SPOILERI hope they don't play up the whole angry at everything, since Catti died. It would just ruin his character.

He needs a son, or they need to focus on thwe other dark elf that came out of the most recent series, think he had a half drow/half regular elf kid. Drizzt has been run into the ground, but the style of writing hasn't. He just needs to shake some things up like he did in the Star Wars book Vector Prime.

On the forums at rasalvatore.com. Can't remember exactly where, but I know I heard it. Besides, I think RAS really is ready to end Drizzt.
on thwe other dark elf that came out of the most recent series, think he had a half drow/half regular elf kid.
Umm...Jarlaxle? He doesn't have any kids. The only other reoccurring Drow has been a lowly psionist named Kimmuriel, but I'm pretty sure he was killed off. You did mean from RAS' books, right Stonebasher?

Wow, thanks for sharing that, Shawn. That's the first time I've seen the Gauntlgrym cover, and it looks awesome. And I agree with you, the D&D logo at the top looks awful. Why are they starting to put it back on the covers anyway?
And hmm, the series title Neverwinter sounds very suspicious....I still think it's the last Drizzt series.

Here's the last part of the book summary from RAS' website:
Drizzt joins these new companions with a conflicted heart. The promise of adventure appeals to a primal part of him. But his lust for battle is growing stronger. Is he really no different from any other dark elf?
This only backs up my thoughts of this being Drizzt's last. But we'll see in a little while.

The issue is that WotC owns Drizzt. If Salvatore wants to stop writing Drizzt books, they'll get someone else to do it. There's way too much money involved for them to let Drizzt fade away. I can't imagine Salvatore would want someone else writing Drizzt books. Their serialized and there's absolutely no reason for Salvatore or WotC to feel the need to wrap up the long-running series. Would Howard have stopped writing Conan, had he not died? Did Leiber ever grow tired of writing about Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser?

If it is, then it's probably more like his second to last Drizzt trilogy as Salvatore just signed a six book deal with WOTC. This information comes from Salvatore's own message board of where I've heard nothing of him wanting to stop writing Drizzt novels.

I don't see why he ever would stop producing Drizzt novels. At the very least, he'd get his son (nnnngh) to take up the chalice.
That's a pretty cool cover. FYI, Neverwinter is a city in Forgotten Realms lore.

The teaser/synopsis/thing that goes on the back of the book (don't know what you call it):
http://www.rasalvatore.com/
When one of his oldest friends, Bruenor Battlehammer, chooses to spend his final days searching for the fabled dwarf kingdom of Gauntlgrym, Drizzt readily agrees. But before Drizzt and Bruenor even get close to finding the lost city, the dwarf assassin Athrogate, black-widow elf Dahlia, and Drizzt’s old nemesis Jarlaxle stumble upon it first. In their search for riches and magic, the three treasure hunters inadvertently set into motion a catastrophe that could spell disaster for the unsuspecting people of the city of Neverwinter—a catastrophe big enough to set even the mercenary Jarlaxle into risking his own coin and skin to stop it. Unfortunately, the more they uncover about the secret of Gauntlgrym, the more it looks like they can’t stop the impending disaster on their own. They’ll need help, and from the last people they ever thought to fight alongside again: Drizzt and Bruenor.
Drizzt joins these new companions with a conflicted heart. The promise of adventure appeals to a primal part of him. But his lust for battle is growing stronger. Is he really no different from any other dark elf?
Sounds pretty interesting, especially with the popularity of Jarlaxle, but I'm a bit worried about the "conflicted heart" thing. It seems to me like Drizzt has matured enough over the series of novels to the point where he shouldn't really be questioning his basic nature so much. I don't know...

Oops, shows where my attention has been. No, at the end of "The Lone Drow," one of the 4 dark elves that were causing problems was captured by Drizzt. In "The Orc King" it was revealed that he had married a surface elf and they had kids. Just don't remember the name, minor character.
