I didn't say they didn't survive. Just went off to do their own thing.

I'm not saying I'm an expert on Shannara or Terry Brooks, nor do I have inside knowledge, but I can say with 100% certainty that Panther and Cat died.

Question I have is how long did the mist last, I would imagine it took hundreds of years for the earth to regenerate. And in the meantime generations upon generations lived within the mist.
Speaking of mist. A random tangent of thought just occurred to me: Mist in Genesis connected to Mist in Landover? Nah! |

I felt like Panther was the old man in the Wish Song book. And wasn't that character also in the Scions as well? My guess.

Panther is not Cogline. Panther is black; Cogline is white.

how do you know. I never recall ethnicity in these books until the apocalyptic series began. Now we've got gender, ethnicity, race, seems so much different as the country change, the books changed.
So you're sure that Cogline was white? |

Web druid is (or seems to be) the adopted son of Terry Brooks. He is defintely a voice of authority in these matters.

how do you know
Black men don't have wispy hair. Plus, Panther and Cat found the Troll nation. So you're sure that Cogline was white?
Yes, he is an old, tanned, white man with wispy white hair. I can point at numerous quotes that use the word wispy if you'd like me to quote them from Wishsong and Scions.

No to mention Terry authorized all paintings done in The World of Shannara, and Cogline is shown in that guide as being white. But that's besides the point.

Oh the powers you have and know of Shannara surpass even mine. But that's only because you know the greatest author

Where the 'rets come from is addressed in Bearers of the Black Staff, but not explicitly. You have to be watching it closely to see...

I agree or I'd like to hope that Panther and Cat found there way to the mountain haven Hawk created..cause well I always really liked Cat and in the end I liked Panther even though he was sort of a ***************** a lot. He really changed as a character and I grew to like him..not to mention I loved Cheney lol

I must say, being new here, LOVE the entire series, always been a favorite. But of all the books, this one has the most 'rushed' ending.. Seems like the epic journey and struggle were wrapped up way to fast.. I'll continue in a fresh post, but wanted to mention here the ending that cat, panther, rabbit and cheney all faced was really not warranted..

Obviously you know now that it was warranted.

I just finished re-reading that series yesterday, and as before despite what anyone says I like to think that they both survived. The fallout and devastation was not completely world wide, some areas were not affected and I for one believe they were in fact in one of those areas.
When they went off on their own, it was over a month before the nukes were launched which would have given them enough time to get far enough north to an isolated area that was not as adversely affected. I have faith that they made it and survived. ![]() |

Nope, I usually wait 'till all the books in a series are published to buy the books. It keeps me from going insane at cliffhanging endings.

If Panther's and Cats descendents are the trolls, then does that make all lineage of Trolls; Rock Forest and River Trolls and Mwellrets? all his decendants?

I would think that there'd have been more humans who mutated into trolls, and that P and C were just the chiefs among them.

Jame, if you re-read Bearers it talks about the Lizards that were inside the valley that Hawk and his followers inhabited. So yes, in a word, Panther and Cat were really just "chiefs" of the Troll nation.

The answerw to what happened to panther and cat is in the bearers of the black staff. When arik is telling pan and prue about his past he mentions being a decendant and what happened to them. Later he does say that he lied about being a decendant but that all else was true.
