1. A friend recommended Brooks and lent me Sword
2. Sword 3. Of course I'll read more 4. I intend to read Bearers of the black staff next 5. I started with Sword, but if I hadn't I still would have found it easy, Terry has a good writing style, although I did find Sword a little slow.

1. How did you come to read your first Shannara book? Umm, I was in 5th grade way back in 1989 and saw someone else reading one (I can't remember which one) and I liked the cover, so I went out and bought a paperback version of Sword of Shannara. I didn't read it right a way, but over summer there was a summer reading contest and the more pages you read, the more credit you got for the next year. Since, to me Sword of Shannara seemed like a bazillion pages of credit at the time I read it.

1. How did you come to read your first Shannara book?
When I was 14 I was in a library wanting something new to read, and saw this book with this nice title and I liked the name Shannara and took it 2. What was your first Shananra book? The sword (well, la spada to be exact) 3. Will you read more? If we are talking only about Shannara, I've read them all 5. If you didn't start with Sword of Shannara, how easily did you find it to get into The World of Shananra? Did you feel that some background knowledge was necessary? I started with the Sword, but that's no coincidence. I look behind it to read something about it and checked that it was the first, and then went back for the others, in order. I think that a background knowledge is not necessary, but is better if you have it |

1. How did you come to read your first Shannara book? I saw one of my friends in highschool reading Shannara, and after I read The Lord of the Rings, I knew i wanted more fantasy. In the bookstore one day, I saw First King.I read it was a prequel to Sword, so i figured it was a good place to start. Only later did i find out it wasnt, but i have no regrets. The rest is history.
2. What was your first Shananra book?First King 3. Will you read more?Oh yeah 4. Which one do you intend to read next?Bearers of the Black Staff 5. If you didn't start with Sword of Shannara, how easily did you find it to get into The World of Shananra? Did you feel that some background knowledge was necessary? Very easy, and First King was a decent place to start in my opinion,

What was your first Shananra book? The Sword of Shannara
How did you come to read your first Shannara book? I found a copy of the first book in my grandparents' bookshelf years ago, but only managed to get through Sword, Elfstones, and part of Wishsong. Which one do you intend to read next? I'm (re)reading Sword, but am reading it as the tenth book in the series as opposed to the first, having chosen to read the series in chronological order as opposed to publishing order. If you didn't start with Sword of Shannara, how easily did you find it to get into The World of Shananra? Did you feel that some background knowledge was necessary? Having been already accquainted with the world of Shannara because of my previous reading of Sword, Elfstones, and part of Wishsong, I found it really fascinating and interesting to read First King having previously read the Word and Void and Genesis of Shannara trilogies. I am also finding my reading of Sword enhanced by having read First King before it, since I'm able to recognize and pick up on the details that Allanon is being vague about when he talks to Shea and Flick and recounts the history of the First and Second Wars of the Races. |

Started with Scions and wouldn't have done it any differently if I could go back.
When I used to recommend Shannara, all the non-fantasy friends I tried to break into the genre immediately lost interest when starting with Sword. Started recommending Scions first... 100% success rate It was great. You heard all these hints and references to legends from hundreds of years before... it meant I attacked Sword with a passion.

1. How did you come to read your first Shannara book? I had to pick a book for a book report at school. So i went to a thrift store and the cover seemed interesting...so i got it....
2. What was your first Shananra book? Wishsong of Shannara 3. Will you read more? When TB comes up with more...i will for sure 4. Which one do you intend to read next?I've read all of them 5. If you didn't start with Sword of Shannara, how easily did you find it to get into The World of Shananra? Did you feel that some background knowledge was necessary? I found it petty easy to, all the info was therethat i needed. I think for people that start with the first book in the series its not necessary but if you start from another it is... |

1. How did you come to read your first Shannara book?
I found it in my basement... 2. What was your first Shananra book? The Sword of Shannara 3. Will you read more? When Terry gets more out 4. Which one do you intend to read next? Bearers of the Black Staff, if that counts as a Shannara book... 5. If you didn't start with Sword of Shannara, how easily did you find it to get into The World of Shananra? Did you feel that some background knowledge was necessary? I started with Sword, purely by chance. |

1. How did you come to read your first Shannara book?
I was in the 4th grade at the public library. A friend came over to show me the cover of Talismans. I was blown away by how cool it looked and immediately checked it out. 2. What was your first Shannara book? Talismans of Shannara 3. Will you read more? Yes. 4. Which one do you intend to read next? Just finished rereading Elfstones. Going to start Wishsong again next. (haven't read most of them since I was a kid) 5. If you didn't start with Sword of Shannara, how easily did you find it to get into The World of Shananra? Did you feel that some background knowledge was necessary? Having started with Talismans, I definitely felt like I was missing something but I understood enough about what was happening to really enjoy it. It also really made me want to go back and start from the beginning of the series. |

Yikes!) and started collecting from bookstores. 2. What was your first Shananra book? Scions of Shannara. Like I said above. 3. Will you read more? I did, and will. 4. Which one do you intend to read next? Dunno yet. I've read all of them, and I have some other things to read (Tai-Pan and Talismans among them). Though I'm getting an urge to read either Ilse Witch or the first High Druid. 5. If you didn't start with Sword of Shannara, how easily did you find it to get into The World of Shananra? Did you feel that some background knowledge was necessary? I found it very easy; Terry's writing is fairly easy to get into, and tends to not need much background knowledge (plus he seems to have accidentally put in a few inconsistencies, e.g. about the length of the Second War of the Races). Cheers. Thanks, man!

1. I was in the military on a ship on my way to Iraq and I wanted something to read and a friend of mine gave me Isle Witch to read. I was hooked from then on.
2. Isle Witch was my first shannara book. 3. I will definitely read more. I'm hooked! 4. I plan on reading whichever one comes out next. 5. I found it pretty easy to get into the world of Shannara even though I started with Isle Witch but after that book I started with sword just so I could read them in order. I really wasn't even into the whole fantasy genre with books but Terry made me a fan right off the bat and I haven't looked back.

I just realized I myself never answered these questions, here we go:
1. How did you come to read your first Shannara book? I was in a bookstore in the winter skipping a class and I saw a giant "Anniversary Edition" of Sword of Shannara. I somehow had missed Brooks and Shannara in the Fantasy Genre for years. I don't recall ever seeing the series and so I thought to myself, if it's getting this kind of "Anniversary" treatment, it cannot be that bad. 2. What was your first Shananra book? Sword of Shannara 3. Will you read more? Of course I will, and I have. 4. Which one do you intend to read next? The Black Unicorn (Magic Kingdom of Landover Book II) 5. If you didn't start with Sword of Shannara, how easily did you find it to get into The World of Shananra? Did you feel that some background knowledge was necessary? Well I did, so it was quite easy. What pulled me into the world was the history of the Great Wars in the second or third chapter of Sword. I was fascinated by this idea.

It's amazing how everyone has such a different way of getting into this series (could be said for any book), still. Gifts, long trips, recommends, etc.
For me it was a massive HC anthology with bright yellow and orange. It was just so awesome I had to check it out. Cheers.

1. How did you come to read your first Shannara book?
My mother brought home from work The Sword of Shannara to read. I stole it from her and read it instead. 2. What was your first Shananra book?
The Sword of Shannara in October 1988. Later that Christmas she gave me The Elfstones of Shannara and The Wishsong of Shannara -- all of them up to that point. 3. Will you read more?
Kind of have to now... Job security and all. 4. Which one do you intend to read next?
In a few weeks I'll read the sequel to Bearers of the Black Staff. 5. If you didn't start with Sword of Shannara, how easily did you find it to get into The World of Shananra? Did you feel that some background knowledge was necessary?
That's where I started. Sorry.
